Scott Gilbertson is a novice cyclist who took up regular cycling in October 2009. Motivated by personal tragedy, Scott is committed to a serious training campaign and is looking forward to the challenge of not only cycling 3000km but the opportunity to creating a brighter future for Australian families.
Scott & Samantha Gilbertson have not been blessed with the ability to conceive children naturally or easily. They have been through four years of heartache trying to start a family.
They started IVF in early 2007 and have been through 12 IVF rounds. They have struggled through 7 failed attempts, 4 pregnancies that all ended in early miscarriages and then sadly lost their fifth baby, Jack, at 15 weeks gestation in August 2009 due to a very rare and severe skeletal dysplasia condition. It has recently been discovered that Sam has high levels of 'natural killer cells' (a recent 60 Minutes program on 27/10/2009 overviewed this medical problem which causes miscarriages). They are now under the care of Dr Gavin Sacks who is an international expert with this condition.
The Gilbertson family are involved with the ‘C2C for Kids’ charity ride to ensure that the memory of their little precious baby Jack lives on. They want to ensure that other families dealing with infertility, the grief of losing a baby or those who have experienced a premature birth are helped by the wonderful and dedicated work that the Bonnie Babes Foundation provides.
