Dave openly admits he is no cyclist in fact prior to September 2009, he hasn't ridden a bike in over 20 years. Dave's experience on two wheels is limited to a bike with an engine. Driven from personal experiences, Dave is determined to complete the 3,000km ride and ensure the fundraising goals are reached. He knows firsthand a successful campaign can make a world of difference for these two tremendous foundations.
Dave and his wife Lee have been part of the International Adoption process for the past 5 years. In March 2009 they were allocated a baby girl from Taiwan. In that time they received monthly health checks, photo's and updates of her development. 3 months before she was due to be picked up, the June 2009 health check uncovered a condition called psychomotor retardation (this interprets to mean brain damage) and hearing loss. She now became a special needs child and the status of the adoption changed. The adoption fell through and she became part of an adoption program in another country. Dave and Lee were devastated by the news. They are now no longer able to contribute to her life and make a difference. This feeling of helplessness left them with the ambition to do something special and make a difference to families in a similar situation.
Dave researched developmental disabilities and found the Tumbatin Clinic which is part of the Sydney Children's Hospital. They provide valuable assessment and diagnosis for children having developmental problems or autism. They then recommend the appropriate therapy to enable the child to have as full and happy life as possible. The Tumbatin Clinic could have helped their little girl if she was here in Australia.
The Bonne family are involved with the C2C charity ride to make a difference for kids and parents who are impacted by developmental disabilities. Additional funding will provide these families with improved diagnosis times and support groups for parents dealing with their child's condition. Dave has made a full-time commitment, both physically and logistically to the C2C campaign. He is asking family, friends, colleagues and strangers to get behind this event and help him achieve his goals.
