Tumbatin Clinic
The Tumbatin Clinic is part of the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick and was set up to provide a diagnostic and assessment service for children suspected of having a development problem or Autism. Over 350 children are assessed annually with a regular program to review and monitor the infants progress.
3% of the population suffer from a developmental delay or disability. Commonly known as gross motor disabilities, these difficulties range from body movement through to hand-eye coordination and even social skills.
There is currently a 6 month waiting list for assessment. Parents must deal with the frustration of their child not receiving the appropriate services due to this delay in assessment. Early detection and treatment is the key to improving a child's ability to live a greater quality of life.
In addition to their assessment services, the Tumbatin Clinic provides parents with the skills required to deal with a special needs child. Many are overwhelmed with grief and need the clinics compassion and support to get through a difficult period.
The ‘Coast to Coast for Kids’ goal is to raise enough money to at least support one full time speech therapist and one social worker for 12 months.
