Ben Hannant is one of the NRL’s youngest stars. His 2009 performance with the Bulldogs was so impressive he was rewarded with a place in the Queensland State-of-Origin team and an Australian Kangaroo’s call up. Ben was the 2009 Dally M Front Row Forward player of the year.
“I feel privileged to be able to support such a great initiative. With three young kids at home, my family is the number one priority in my life and I feel everyone should have the opportunity to start a family. This is a fantastic event and I hope much support and funds are generated for two such worthy causes.”
Ben Hannant: Rugby League Player
Date of Birth: 31 December, 1984
Height: 185cm
Weight: 108kg
Position: Front row forward
Junior Club: Burleigh Bears
Previous Clubs: Roosters, Broncos
While attending Palm Beach Currumbin State High in 2002, Hannant played for the Australian Schoolboys.
In 2005 Hannant made his debut for the Sydney Roosters against the Wests Tigers at Sydney Football Stadium in round four.
In late 2005, Hannant moved to the Broncos for the 2006 season and enjoyed premiership success. The retirement of Shane Webcke following the Grand Final left some large shoes to be filled in the Broncos' front row and Hannant was the perfect replacement.
Hannant impressed Queensland Origin selectors with his outstanding form in 2008 and as a result was selected on the bench for game one. He scored his first try in Game 2 at Suncorp Stadium, which Queensland won 30-0.
Ben’s switch to the Bulldogs in 2009 was valuable for both club and player. He was instrumental in the blue and whites turn around and had his most successful season of his short career.
Ben possesses all the requirements of the modern day ball playing front rower, good leg speed and a great engine. He just loves to win and spending time with the family on his property at Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast.
Whilst a formidable player on the field, some of his best work is done off the field. Ben is a devoted family man and a even at a young age, is one the NRL’s best role models. Late in 2009 Ben cut short a Queensland holiday with his family to take Bianca Akkery, 18, to her school formal. What makes this gesture so special is that Bianca has Down syndrome.
Ben didn't want his story told but rugby league fans deserve a feel good story. Bianca's parents Nora and Dominic are Bulldogs season ticketholders and after every home game Hannant makes sure he meets Bianca for a chat.
